TECHNICAL

GENERAL
The majority of our digital capture and processing is on up-to-date Apple Macintosh computers linked via a high speed Ethernet network. We have large back-up facilities and hold many of our clients’ full digital archives.

PHOTOGRAPHIC SCANNING
We have a variety of scanners to meet all type of formats and requirements including high-end Heidelberg drum scanners and Hasselblad Imacon scanners.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
We have an impressive collection of photographic equipment including the high-end Betterlight 5x 4 scanning-back. Our cameras, together with the scanning-back, enable us to achieve exceptionally high-resolution and are ideal for capturing fine detail on oversized material e.g. artwork, maps and architectural or engineering drawings.

MICROFILM DIGITISATION
We use the SunRise SpeedScan scanners enabling high quality, high volume digitisation of microfilm, microfiche and aperture card scanning.

AUDIO
Our audio capture and encoding facilities can accommodate vinyl, 1/4" and 1/2" reel-to-reel, audio cassette and mini cassette in addition to all existing digital formats at digitisation rates of up to 98kHz at 24 bit.

VIDEO
Our video capture and encoding facilities can accommodate U-Matic, VHS & Betamax in addition to all existing digital formats.

MICROFILM SCANNER
We use the new generation SunRise 3-in-1 scanning system which is a networked standalone device. A rollfilm, fiche or aperture card module completes the system for any type of microfilm to be scanned. Digitisation speeds can exceed 300 images per minute for bi-tonal images with greyscale images taking longer but able to obtain high quality and impressive tonal range images.

DRUM SCANNER
Our drum scanners capture image information with photomultiplier tubes (PMT), rather than the charge-coupled-device (CCD) arrays found in flatbed scanners. Light from the original artwork is split into separate red, blue, and green beams in the optical bench of the scanner.
DIGITAL RECORDING
Our rack of Tascam SS-R1 digital audio solid state recorders produce highly reliable digital encoding and playback from analogue masters such as reel-to-reel, audio cassette or vinyl. Digitised recordings of up to 98kHz/24 bit are then transferred to our high end audio workstations for acoustic monitoring, further processing and final output to archive.
